The Rea Vaya brand is getting a public boost through its new fun and friendly mascot, which was selected from a design competition for a new mascot open to the public.

SOON commuters will be meeting a new member of the Rea Vaya team – an energetic new mascot in the form of a loveable lion. He is outgoing, fun and carefree, and is ready to strut through the stations to meet you.
Earlier this year, Rea Vaya ran a competition for designers to come up with a mascot; and, after much deliberation by the judges, this funky lion came out tops. He's fun-loving, casual and cool – just like the people of Joburg.
The designer said his drawings were inspired by the lions on the Gauteng's coat of arms, and by the Jozi culture.
You'll spot him on a Rea Vaya station or at a Rea Vaya event wearing a T-shirt with the Rea Vaya logo on it. On his trousers are patches with each of the City's five transport values: accountability, co-operation, honesty, respect, and ubuntu.
The name of the designer is being kept under wraps, but will be announced at a special ceremony on 9 November. For his or her efforts, this designer will be rewarded with a laptop.
And, from now until 7 November we need your help to name our friendly new team member. You can SMS your suggestion to 43687. Include your name + your suggestion for the name of the Rea Vaya lion. You too will then stand a chance of winning a laptop computer.
On 9 November our mascot will be visiting Rea Vaya stations – keep a look out for him.
