REA VAYA will offer its special World Cup service for a final time on Sunday, 11 July to get football fans to the stadium for the closing ceremony and finals between Spain and Netherlands.
And with bigger than usual clampdowns on traffic planned for the World Cup final, fans are advised to make use of the special Rea Vaya service instead, as roads will be closed in Sandton, Soweto and along the N1. BUS OR TRAINRea Vaya buses will transport fans to Soccer City stadium from 11 am, every 20 to 30 minutes and from 2pm every 5 minutes, in time for the closing ceremony which starts at 6pm; and the kickoff which is at 8.30pm.

There will be a Rea Vaya Park and Ride service at Constitution Hill in Joubert Street or fans can park at Westgate Station on the corner of Anderson Street and Pat Mbatha Bus and Taxi Way in the inner city to catch the Rea Vaya bus. A return ticket with Rea Vaya costs R12. Fans can also embark onto the bus from other Rea Vaya stations along the main trunk route which runs between Thokoza Park and Ellis Park.
The Park and Ride tickets for Constitution Hill should be bought before the day of the match from Computicket. Spectators will receive a Rea Vaya return ticket included in the parking fee, which costs R50.00. Passengers boarding at other Rea Vaya stations are encouraged to buy a return ticket at a cost of R12 to avoid queuing for tickets after the match.
From Westgate Transport Hub, supporters will also be able to take a Metrorail train which will be free for match ticket holders. Fans traveling from Sandton have been advised to catch a Metrobus bus from there to the Westgate Transport Hub for only R20.
Metrorail trains will also be offering free rides from Park Station and Pretoria Station to the game. The pre-booked Park and Ride facility at Park Station will be opened from 2 pm. The first free train will leave Park Station at 4 pm, while the second one will leave Pretoria Station at 4.07pm. ROAD CLOSURESTo ensure there is smooth flow of traffic, the Johannesburg metro police department (JMPD), the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other metro police departments from Gauteng have put together a traffic management plan that involves a number of road closures and soft road locks.
Buses will depart at regular intervals
"Working together with the Organising Committee and FIFA, we have decided to implement stricter traffic management measures to ensure that fans can arrive on time for the closing ceremony and the final match," said the Gauteng MEC for roads and transport, Bheki Nkosi.
Most of the road closures will occur in Sandton from 1 pm to 5 pm and along the N1 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
Controlled access will be allowed from time to time in Sandton; however, affected roads will include Alice Lane and West Street from Alice Lane to Rivonia Road; Rivonia Road will be closed from Fredman Drive to Fifth Street; Maude Street will be closed from West Street to Gwen Lane; while Fifth Street will be closed from Rivonia Road to Alice Lane. ON AND OFF RAMPSThere will be soft road closures along the N1 from Pretoria to Soccer City, with the affected on and off ramps including: N1 South Atterbury Road, N1 South Garsfontein Road, N1 South Rigel Avenue, N1 and R21, N1 and N14, N1 South Botha Avenue, N1 South Old Johannesburg Road, N1 South Samrand, N1 South Olifantsfontein, N1 South New Road and N1 South Allendale Road.
These are not all the closures, however; more roads that will be closed are: N1 South Rivonia Road, N1 South and North William Nicol Drive, N1 South Malibongwe Drive, N1 South Beyers Naude Drive, N1 South 14th Avenue, N1 South Gordon Road, N1 South Maraisburg Road, N1 offramps north and south at Soweto Highway; and at the corner of Soweto Highway and Immink Road. FAN FEST™Metro police and SAPS officials will be on duty at all road closures. Those wanting to watch the ceremony and the game at the Innes Free Park Fan Fest™ in Sandton are urged to plan their trips carefully and ensure that they get there early to avoid being affected by these road closures.
"If you have no reason to travel through any road restricted areas, please avoid them at these times," said the JMPD spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar.
He encouraged fans without tickets to avoid the stadium precinct altogether and rather head to Fan Fests™ and public viewing sites.
"Our traffic officers and the [SAPS] will be scrupulously checking the vehicles, including those of VAPP [vehicle access and parking permit] holders to ensure that each vehicle occupant has a valid match ticket or accreditation permit specifically for the Soccer City final."
