The City of Johannesburg is ensuring easy access to Soccer City for the big match between Ghana and Germany, with extra parking laid on at Westgate and Gold Reef City. Now fans are being urged to do their bit.
FANS attending the 8.30pm match between Ghana and Germany at Soccer City on 23 June are urged to get to the stadium well ahead of time.
1. Ticket holders are urged to leave for the game, five hours before the start. Residents and other non-match holders are urged to avoid the area if they can. Soweto Highway and Nasrec Road will be closed to ordinary traffic.
2. Cars without parking tickets will be turned back from Soccer City. Spectators with park and walk tickets are urged to plan their trip:
- Shareworld parking ticket holders must use N1 South and then N17 offramp
- Aeroton parking ticket holders must use M1 S, Nasrec Road turn off or Golden Highway turn off from N1S
- Rand Show parking ticket holders must use Rand Show off ramp from N1 or M1.
3. The City of Johannesburg has arranged for additional safe and secure parking at Westgate and Gold Reef City.
- Parking at Westgate Rea Vaya Station is on the West side of the station at bottom of Anderson Street. For R100, in addition to parking, two passengers will receive free tickets for the Rea Vaya BRT. About 400 bays have been made available on a first come first serve basis.
- Parking at Gold Reef City it is in the Gold Reef Theme Park parking. A parking ticket costs R100 and will also entitle the parking ticket holder to discounted entrance the next time they visit Gold Reef City. About 800 parking bays will be made available.
4. People who arrive at Park and Rides without parking tickets will be turned away. Further, people who park their cars near the Park and Rides and want to just walk in, will not be allowed to travel on the Park and Ride buses.
5. Fans are encouraged to use public transport. Metrorail is running free services from 16h30 and Rea Vaya BRT costs R12 return from all CBD and Soweto Rea Vaya Stations. The normal Rea Vaya service will run until 4pm after which, only the event service will operate.
6. Metrobus will run a service from Sandton to Westgate after which fans can board a train or Rea Vaya bus to the stadium. The popular stops are at Innis Free Park and cnr Rivonia and West, across the road from the Gautrain Station.
